Biking is safe and quick to get around Chiang Mai since the traffic inside the old city walls is not that busy. There are plentiful Bike rentals around the city, and the cost is not so expensive which is approximately 30-250 Baht per day.
Few metered taxis are also provided in Chiang Mai, though it is not quite common. The fare start at 30 baht for the first 2 km then 4 baht/km after that, otherwise the bargaining for fixed fare is needed. Taxis are not generally to be hailed in the street. The traveler can book a taxi by calling +66 53 279-291, stating the target destination and the call centre will give a quote; or contact individual drivers on the mobile phone numbers displayed on their vehicle.
Car rental services are plenty around the Chiang Mai city and it is very easy to find. The cars that can be rented are of many types which include Toyota Vios, Altis, Yaris, Honda City, Jazz. For the newer models, the typical rate of price is few more expensive, approximately 1200-2000 baht per day. It could be a slight discount for a weekly renting. The pickups like Toyata Hilux and Fortuner are also available for traveler who love adventure or have to carrying lots of stuff. Minivans with drivers are also provided in many places, with the cost around 2000 baht per day plus fuel. The cheaper alternative at around 600-800 baht per day could be Older Suzuki Caribean 4WD jeeps which is rather difficult to drive and less mechanically reliable than a standard.
